Principal's Message

Published by Oxley Vale Public School

Hello everyone and welcome to Week 6. As with every other week this week is full of opportunities for your children to work hard, learn and demonstrate the four school values of pride, respect, excellence and integrity. Just one of these opportunities is the mobile dentist service that is at school all week. Notes went home a few weeks ago and this is a fantastic service to our school.

Speaking of excellence, last Friday's PBL assembly was a sensational showcase of the great work students from OVPS do every day. For those of you who were present at the assembly (which unfortunately I was not) the Lip Sync Battle from 6G has been touted as an absolute highlight. Mr Griffiths has promised some video footage will appear in next week's Messenger and I can't wait to see it. Well done 6G and Mr Griffiths.

Finally, this Friday sees the annual P&C Father's Day breakfast BBQ. Dads, can I encourage you to come to school for breakfast on Friday even if it means starting work a little late? It says something important to children (particularly boys) about the importance of school and education when dad gets involved. Also this Friday some of our talented athletes are representing our school at the Zone athletics carnival and we wish all of them the very best in their events at that carnival.

Have a great week,
Luke Norman.
Principal.

p.s. During last week Mrs Ellis sent some students to show me a sample of their work, a poem they had written on the topic of 'kindness.' I was so impressed I asked that it be recorded so you could see it too. It looks like they had fun recording it! Thanks Noah, Ruby and Imogen.

Food Allergies and Intolerances

Parents and carers: the canteen manager, Mrs Gardiner, invites parents of those children with food allergies or intolerances (especially those who are coeliac or gluten or lactose intolerant) to make her aware at their convenience, to help minimise the chance of children ordering something from the canteen that might trigger a reaction, and so that Mrs Gardiner can cater for children with particular dietary needs.

What's been happening in KC

Published by Nicholas Clark

The students in KC have been working hard this term in all areas. At the moment we are fortunate to have Mrs Worley in our room. Mrs Worley is a prac student from the University of New England and is lucky enough to be with us for the next few weeks. She has been teaching the students about Area in Mathematics and about Puffins in English. The students have thoroughly enjoyed her lessons and have produced some excellent work which is on display in our classroom.

Treehouse Excursion

Published by Rochelle Popplewell

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, Stage 2 and 3 students were lucky enough to have an excursion to the Tamworth Library. Students learned some of the more unusual things they can borrow from the library, such as cake tins and even seeds (they don't have to give those back!). They learned that every copy of the local newspaper since the late 1800s is stored in the library on microfiche. Students were shown some of the winners and runners up for the Children's Book of the Year categories and played a memory game. Next, they went upstairs to view the amazing artworks created by the Treehouse series illustrator, Terry Denton, and got to draw some cartoons of their own. Finally, students had a close up look at items made with a 3D printer and got to interact with the library's resident robot, Codey. He even does tai chi!

Please enjoy some photographs from 4/5P's rotations through the activities.

Cadbury Fundraiser:

The P & C will be running a Cadbury fundraiser over the coming months. We would appreciate if parents would like to take home a box or two of chocolates and maybe sell at your workplace, get the kids to sell to family and friends.

Boxes can be collected on a Tuesday morning by parents at the clothing pool (8:45am - 9:30am).

If you would like to arrange collection at another time please pop the P & C an email: oxleyvalepublicschool@pandcaffiliate.org.au

Thank you to those who have taken boxes to sell. Money can be return to the canteen (Mon-Fri) or to the clothing pool on a Tuesday morning. We can also arrange direct deposit, if this suits you please contact the P & C.

School Banking

School banking is going really well, with many students receiving their first rewards for regular banking. If you wish to do school banking, we bank with both the Commonwealth Bank (Dollarmites) and Regional Australia Bank. The P & C receive $$ back from both the Commonwealth Bank and Regional Australia Bank for offering this service to our students, which is used for the many fundraising goals the P & C are working towards.

If you haven't signed up for school banking and you want to.... pop into the branch and sign up your child. You are also able to do banking for siblings as well.

School banking is collected on a Tuesday morning, outside the canteen, near the clothing pool.

Clothing Pool

Thank you to the many families who have donated uniforms to the clothing pool over the last few months. Special thanks to Jody in the office who arranged to have all lost property washed over the holidays, any items labelled have been returned to students and the rest is now available for purchase at the clothing pool. The items in the clothing pool are sold for minimal money, which is then donated back to the school through the P & C to fund items for your child.

Items can be dropped at the clothing pool on a Tuesday morning - between 8:45am - 9:30am.

Next P&C Meeting - Wedneday September 26:

The next meeting of the P&C will be held at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 26 September. The meeting is held in the school staffroom and is open to everyone.
